Career Change: Omar Soliman, Health Care to Hunk Hauling Junk

Would you say to those who believe they need a formal education to change careers?
Its hard not to shake my head in dissatisfaction at those that think a formal education is the key to a career change. Education is the key to making yourself a better person it is not the key to a better career. The book Rich Dad Poor Dad states that the Poor dad gets an education so as to find a company to work for where as the Rich dad gets an education to figure out which company he wants to buy. Obviously not everyone can go around buying companies but this points out the misconception of education. The true entrepreneurs educate themselves so as to make decisions that will help them reach their goals. Haters, Enemies and Schadenfreude, Part II

Often times they ask me questions assuming my business is terrible and I (and they would be justified that I am crazy) if I made a mistake in leaving what appeared to them as prestige. They look at me as if I have just received a cancer diagnosis and in a hushed tone ask “How is business, everything ok?”

I take my friend Devin’s advice and I say, “business is incredible.” As he says, it could be incredibly good or incredibly bad. What difference does it make it they know. Continue reading
