This morning I watched this piece from CNN on jobs and career. It discusses the current economy and how people are coping, getting by and remaining hopeful.
This is a great piece because it shows the realities of not having a job, or home. It depicts urban campers- people who live in motor homes. It shows how one father is doing whatever it takes to feed his kids.
Some are reinventing themselves, such as the Washington DC lawyer from Curbside Cupcakes (I can relate). A PR guy who is now an paramedic. Even a clown.

Famous People Who Were Rejected From College
Time puts rejection letters in perspective, says Ted Turner. He received dual rejections as a teenager, by Princeton and Harvard, he says in an interview. The future America’s Cup winner attended Brown University, where he became captain of the sailing team. He left college after his father cut off financial support, and joined his father’s billboard company, which he built into the media empire that spawned CNN. Career Change: Omar Soliman, Health Care to Hunk Hauling Junk
Would you say to those who believe they need a formal education to change careers?
Its hard not to shake my head in dissatisfaction at those that think a formal education is the key to a career change. Education is the key to making yourself a better person it is not the key to a better career. The book Rich Dad Poor Dad states that the Poor dad gets an education so as to find a company to work for where as the Rich dad gets an education to figure out which company he wants to buy. Obviously not everyone can go around buying companies but this points out the misconception of education. The true entrepreneurs educate themselves so as to make decisions that will help them reach their goals.
