Two Year Old Smoking Baby (video)
This has nothing to do with careers.
This smoking baby is 2 years old and lives in Sumatra, Indonesia.
I thought the tape was sped up until I looked at the gestures of the people in the background.
Supposedly this two year old child smokes two packs a day.
How do you say, “WRONG” in Indonesian?

Fiscal Crises Threaten Europe’s Generous Benefits
Spain is cutting assistance payments for disabled people by 300 million euros ($375 million) and did away with a three-year-old bonus of 2,500 euros ($3,124.25) per new baby. It also has proposed hiking the retirement age for men from 65 to 67. Continue reading

Talking Business With Neil Patel of QuickSprout.com (video)
“The Internet marketing company started taking off and as a kid I thought I was “rolling in dough”. With the money I made I started investing in a few other companies. I invested around a million dollars into a hosting company called Vision Web Hosting, that never worked out (sadly I lost all of the money I invested into it). After realizing investing wasn’t for me, my business partner and I took the rest of the money we made and created another company called Crazy Egg. Crazy Egg created a lot of buzz when it came out and I surely thought I would end up selling it for 10 million dollars. When I wasn’t able to get an asking price of 10 million dollars for Crazy Egg my business partner and I decided that we were going to raise venture capital because Crazy Egg wasn’t a profitable company. . . Other than the Internet marketing company I also co-founded a few more companies such as KISSmetrics, which funny enough got funded by True Ventures who I once pitched Crazy Egg to. Some of the companies I co-founded didn’t do well and made me lose a lot of money whereas others have done great. But after 23 years of living I have learned one really important thing: life isn’t fair! If you don’t like the cards you are dealt with, do something to change them. And for some ungodly reason, if you are unable to change them, keep moving forward and don’t look back. All you can do is try.”
I don’t keep many blogs on my browser. Just 2. One of which is Neil Patel’s QuickSprout.com. I like QuickSprout the information in the posts is quality. Quality based on experience.
I wanted to interview Neil because he is a young entrepreneur who is energetic, intelligent and smart about how he invests his money (and he will tell you the hard knocks and failures he took to earn that wisdom).
When doing my research for the interview I found that Neil and I grew up in the same small town of very tiny town of La Palma, Ca. Went to the same school (John F. Kennedy High School) and even had the same first employer at a local amusement park, Knott’s Berry Farm (I in fast food, and he as a janitor).
In this interview we have a casual chat about:
Local food
Living in Seattle
Being a millionaire
Essentials to start your business
Why its good to have rich friends
Spas
Being a millionaire
Taxes
Investing
Mistakes that entrepreneurs make
Social media
How to keep your focus, and
Where to get good chai
Its a light discussion interwoven with great advice for the beginning and multimillionaire entrepreneur.
Grab your pen and paper. I am sure you will want to take notes.

I Run My Own Communications Strategy And Brand Firm

I Created My Own Fashionable Footwear Company
The main reason why I decided to make a change was because I couldn’t see myself working the same job for someone else for the rest of my life. I needed to have control of when I wanted to take vacation, or if I wasn’t feeling well, I could just work from home. I also didn’t want to depend on someone else for a paycheck. If a recession happens again in twenty years, then I don’t have to worry about losing my job. After dealing with my hospital experience in college, I refuse to ever be in such an outrageous workplace where supervisors are corrupt and employees place blame on others. Continue reading
Jobs In Focus
Source: CNN
This morning I watched this piece from CNN on jobs and career. It discusses the current economy and how people are coping, getting by and remaining hopeful.
This is a great piece because it shows the realities of not having a job, or home. It depicts urban campers- people who live in motor homes. It shows how one father is doing whatever it takes to feed his kids.
Some are reinventing themselves, such as the Washington DC lawyer from Curbside Cupcakes (I can relate). A PR guy who is now an paramedic. Even a clown.

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words. Video Is Worth So Much More
When marketing my company, Travertine Spa Collection, I use a variety of methods. Mostly easy, inexpensive and creative.
Last year I bought a flip video (I think I saw it on a Christmas Gift segment on TV). I learned how to use it and started making videos.
In the beginning I would tell people about the “celebrities” who used our products. I got no response. When they saw the photos on the website, I got calls and “how did you do that?” questions.
The visual makes a difference. Are you using visuals in your business?
I’m my case, images and video depict a day in the lifestyle of my business. High-end Luxury.
Start marketing your business with video. its cheap, fun and easy to disseminate. If it goes viral like Keyboard Cat you will be glad you did.
Here is a day in the Life with NFL Players.

Remember, I Changed Careers Too
7. What skills from law school or your legal career have proven most useful in your new career?
Diligence. Confidence. Professionalism. In law, you don’t miss deadlines. In business, many are not as diligent and make up silly excuses. I feel like I’m running in a marathon and competing against people with one leg. They can only do one task at a time where I am strategizing and completing tasks. Continue reading
