How About A Career Selling Cupcakes?
Founded by two married former investment bankers, Charles and Candace Nelson, Sprinkles is looking to grow. The couple spent two years working on their recipes before opening their Beverly Hills location in 2005. “You have to have a great product, brand and location and then it can be very scalable,” said Mr. Nelson.. Sprinkles is slated to open three more stores next year. Seventy percent of its business comes from walk-ins, so location is crucial. Mr. Nelson declined to say whether the individual stores or the company as a whole had achieved profitability, but he did say that Sprinkles had a 20-year business plan and was committed to the long haul. Career Change: From Disney Exec to Executive Career Coach
Do You Think A Formal Education Is Necessary To Change Careers?
I suggest that people think about all the skills that they have gained in the course of their life: budgeting, structuring, working hard, being frugal, working with volunteers at the church, building a mission/values that drive your family. Plus you have all the skills you have learned at work: customer service, technology, dealing with bosses, dealing with the government, researching…..When you look at all the skills and competencies you have you may have all that you need.
If you do need skills, I suggest that people use the learning situation to build a community that will provide you great feedback as you change careers. Fellow classmates can cheer you on or help you to change direction in a way that your employees and your family can’t. Continue reading

Career Change: Omar Soliman, Health Care to Hunk Hauling Junk
Would you say to those who believe they need a formal education to change careers?
Its hard not to shake my head in dissatisfaction at those that think a formal education is the key to a career change. Education is the key to making yourself a better person it is not the key to a better career. The book Rich Dad Poor Dad states that the Poor dad gets an education so as to find a company to work for where as the Rich dad gets an education to figure out which company he wants to buy. Obviously not everyone can go around buying companies but this points out the misconception of education. The true entrepreneurs educate themselves so as to make decisions that will help them reach their goals. They do not get educations because society or other people expect it. howichangedcareers.com Continue reading

Outsourcing
My business is in the spa industry. Tranquility is important to me.
Do you have some projects to outsource? I suggest you try it. As entrepreneurs we can’t do it all on our own. It was worth the cost to me. Tomorrow I can start the day fresh, organized and ready to conquer my market (and able to find what I need) Continue reading
